Built With Web Standards

What Are Web Standards?

"Web standards are technologies, established by the W3C and other standards bodies, that are used to create and interpret web-based content. These technologies are designed to future-proof documents published on the Web and to make those documents accessible to as many as possible."

From "Developing With Web Standards"

Web Standards provide clean, concise guidelines for making web sites so that they load quickly, can be viewed by all browsers, and ensure future compatibility with browsers under development. Typically built with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for the design and presentation of the website and Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML) for the content and structure of the site, a standards-based site is designed to be faster, easier to use, and accessible to the most amount of people possible.

Sites built using Web Standards have many advantages over 'traditional' sites. These incude:

  • Faster page loading times
  • Better search engine optimization
  • Cross-browser compatibility
  • Easier site maintenance and updating; quicker development time
  • Easy loading in PDA's, cell phones, and other devices
  • Better scalability across screen resolutions
  • Compliance for US Section 508 regulations for Web Accessibility.

Accessibility

What is Accessibility?

"The power of the web is in its universality. Access by everyone regardless of disability is an essential aspect."

- Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director and inventor of the World Wide Web

Ingles is proactively testing and changing each page on our web site for level AAA accessibility compliance. Level AAA standards meet and exceed the requirements set forth by US Section 508 for accessible web sites. While many of our pages already pass, we are still working on getting them all to be compliant. Please bear with us as we continue to improve out site, making it as accessible as possible.
